Vintage Paper Garland

I made this Christmas garland before twelveOeight was born last year, so please forgive me for not-so-elaborate step by step photos.  But I will tell you what I did…

I found some Vintage Sheet Music at a local thrift store last year and I knew I wanted to make a girly, pretty garland with it.  Need some free Vintage Sheet Music? Thanks to The Graphics Fairy, you only need to click here to download some, awesome huh? Here is what I used to make this garland:

Vintage Sheet Music cut in 1″ strips (vertically)
Natural coffee filters
Heavy needle and embroidery thread (I used a darning needle)
Black scrap book paper with silver writing
Silver glitter chipboard letter spelling out “believe”
Strips of black and white gingham, burlap and cream colored cotton lace
Stapler & hot glue

I made my sheet music “flowers” first by using 4 strips in a criss-cross pattern, and used a staple to secure them in the flower shape you see in the picture above.  Next I cut out seven circles from the black scrap book paper that were larger than my chipboard letter.  I glued the circles in place, and the letters on each of the “flowers.”

I threaded the darning needle with a long piece of embroidery thread and tied a knot on the very end.  I took 4 or 5 coffee filters and crumpled them a bit to make them look like ruffly roses and ran the needle thru them, alternating with the “believe” letters to form about a 4 foot garland.
After they were all strung on, I went back and tied bits of lace, burlap and gingham between the letters and on the ends of the garland.

Easy huh? The pictures just cannot capture how pretty this looks against a green garland.  I packed it away carefully last year and it came out of the box looking brand new.

Are you getting crafty this weekend or relaxing after a busy Thanksgiving? You may be traveling too or being a good elf and getting some of your Christmas shopping done.  Either way, thank you as always for reading, hugs and blessings from me to you 🙂

xoxo, Tanya
