Vintage White and Aqua Table

I have often wondered how one would start a business selling pretty things.
Maybe the business would be the result of much planning, and research.
Perhaps it would be passed down from a family member.
But I have a sneaking suspicion that most of us realize that this is something
that we can turn into a business.
And once I begin to sell a few things, I have a feeling my space in the garage
(99.9999%) will once and for all be justified.

My daughter and I recently worked on this piece which will go up for sale soon.
Mandy and I spent countless hours of her childhood trolling vintage shops, yard
sales, and thrift stores for that next great find.  So she has a double-whammy.
Genetics and osmosis.
Her apartment is small, but she has it filled with eclectic
goodies, a retro dinette set, and upcycled treasures galore.
And more owls than one could count.
So we tend to think alike.
So she and I decided a good slathering of homemade chalk paint in white would
be perfect for this side table that already has really cool lines and hardware.
And the fun part is the bright aqua drawer.
Also made with homemade chalk paint.
My recipe:
1 cup paint (acrylic or latex both work great)
1/3 to 1/2 cup powdered Plaster of Paris
               1/3 cup cold water
If paint is too thick, add more water, if too thin a bit more powdered plaster.
Stir well and store in a sealed jar.  Mine lasts for months this way.
And the rest is just a matter of applying a couple coats, allowing each to dry
in between.  Don’t get discouraged if it looks horrible.
That’s normal, it will look gorgeous soon…
Use a palm sander in some areas for heavy distressing, and a piece of fine
sandpaper for the small areas.
Wipe your piece down well and seal with either a good wax or poly spray
for a table top or piece that will have heavier use.
You are done, and fabulous.
And well on your way to clearing up some space in your garage.
Hugs,

  1. Such a pretty turn around for this piece of furniture! Love the blue inside the drawer especially. I'm hoping that painting furniture and the like is worthy of becoming a business, since I'm in the early stages of trying to start one of my own. If you are too, then I wish you all the best of luck!!

  2. Love the blue inside the drawer! I have yet to do that on a piece.

I have also taken over the garage with projects. I try and flip furniture pieces as soon as they get there. Buuuutt…..they start accumulating very quickly and space is deff an issue! Great did a project flip! Thanks for sharing on CSI Thrift Store Turnaround.
