For many of us, our dining room table is the hub of our home.
And while I would love to shop for a new dining room set,
I am just not ready to part with our old table yet.
We have so many memories around this table.
Candles blown out…
Thanksgiving meals shared…
prayers said, and homework done
all around a little table I bought
after we bought our first home over
So I had to figure out what I was going
to do to update this memory filled piece
of furniture.
~before her fab makeover~ |
The first requirement was staying on a thrifty budget.
So that meant paint, slipcovers, and a new area rug.
I already had the slipcovers which all fit great on
the mod podge of two different styles of dining
room chairs. Next was the color. I chose an
off-white color as I wanted it to match the
slipcovers and also provide a clean, streamlined
look. Last was the area rug. I found this
new, larger area rug at a local store for just
under $100, not too bad!
I used my homemade chalk paint recipe
you can find here and here to paint the
table, and distressed it lightly after it was dry.
Next I used a few coats of Howard Feed N Wax
to protect the paint and make it glow.
I am super excited about how it turned out,
the transforming power of paint never
ceases to amaze me.
Do you have a favorite piece of furniture
that you cannot bear to part with?
If it’s time for an update, it doesn’t need
to be expensive or difficult to give
your furniture a fresh new look
just in time for summer.
Happy decorating friends, now I’m off to
work on wedding decorations, we only have
5 weeks left until our backyard wedding
for our eldest daughter, so exciting!!

Just a beautiful table and even better that it holds so many wonderful memories!
Thank you so much for your sweet message Sharon, I guess I'm just not ready to part with it yet!

Want to make one for me Tanya? Seriously, I have such a small kitchen and I really want to get myself a smaller kitchen table… but I'm kinda stuck with mine because my mother-in-law bought it for us a few years back…. gosh I wish I could be free to change it! I think she would even be disappointed if I painted it… I'm STUCK!
Love the new shabby chic look Tanya. With so many sweet memories she's more like part of the family instead of a piece of furniture. Really like the slipcovers and new rug too! Best of luck with the upcoming wedding. Thanks for sharing with SYC. I have an antique hoosier that I love, but haven't been able to use in this house. We just finished our basement. Brought her home and
I love it! So cute! Thanks for sharing at Pinworthy Projects.
