Wine And Spray Paint

I suppose the title of today’s post could be a bit misleading, as I am not technically mixing wine and spray paint.  But recycling discarded items into modern, artsy goods for my casa.  Having said that, someone had to take one for the team and help finish the wine in order to make this project happen.  I like you that much, these are the things I am willing to do in the name of art, cheap wine, and our crafty time together.  So dig around in your recycling bin, and let’s make some stuff.

I have been wanting to upcycle a wine bottle for a while, but inspiration just had not struck yet.  Until I was doing some late-night shopping at WalMart recently and found a really cool pack of scrap booking paper.  This wood-grain design caught my eye right away.

I spray painted the top half of the bottle with Krylon Metallic Brilliant Gold first, two good coats and allowed them to dry well.  After that I trimmed the scrap book paper down and applied a good coat of matte Mod Podge to the back of the paper.  Next I attached it to the outside of the bottle, folding the edges underneath the bottom of the bottle.   Smoothing out any bubbles and wrinkles, I used one more coat of Mod Podge then waited for my new vase to dry.

I had also found a faux palm frond for $5 on my late night shopping trip, and love the simple touch these add to a table scape.  In the cart it went.  Next, I used three coats of satin white Krylon spray paint on my little brown thrift store owls to give them a modern West Elm edge.

A little vintage, a little modern,  a few simple supplies and less than $10 later I have a little updated table scape for the aqua dresser (reveal coming soon!) that was a Craigslist treasure from a couple years ago.

As always, hugs & many blessings to you and your family.  Thank you for creating with me, and coming along for the thrifty adventure as I make my house into my home.

xoxo, Tanya

  2. The wine bottle looks beautiful! Thanks for drinking that wine for us! 😉 More owls…love them! They look very modern in white. Great table scape. Can't wait to see the dresser.

  3. Love the wine bottle! Much better than the one I did with Glitter Spray paint. Oh the Glitter Spray Paint worked fine…it just cost more than the wine. Thanks for your kind words on my Pork Chops in the Crock Pot at Serenity Now!

  4. This project has potential for so much versatility! There are so many gorgeous papers available and paint colors, the possibilities are endless. Come to think of it, it could be used on almost any empty glass bottle. Your color combo is very elegant and sophisticated! Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. That wine bottle looks really good! I can say that it’s a very unique vase now. It really is cool what a big difference a little bit of paint can do. Also, it’s great to see wine bottles being put to great use instead of being in the garbage. Glass bottles are actually more practical to reuse or recycle than to throw away because they tend to clog landfills.
