How To Make Chai Tea Latte Mix

I was a bit skeptical a few years ago when I began to see recipes pop up for homemade Chai Latte Mix.  I’m not a coffee or tea snob, but I love coffee, good tea and excessive amounts of Diet Coke.  So with that much caffeine in my life I felt as though I would be a decent judge as to what constitutes a good homemade Chai Tea Mix.

I have tweaked this over and over, and this is my favorite version.  It’s easy to make, and this recipe fills about 1 2/3 big mason jars.  This can also be made with decaf instant tea, you can reduce the sugar, or replace it with Splenda, it’s fun to experiment.  I made a big cup this afternoon and I am unsure if sharing this recipe will increase or decrease the requests we get for this at Christmas, we will have to wait and see.  So far I have kept this a secret 😉

These make a wonderful, and budget-friendly gifts as well.  When shipping care packages and boxes of gifts I like to tuck some of this in too, a homemade gift to enjoy is always special and appreciated.  Let’s get started:

Chai Tea Latte Mix

  • 1 c. vanilla sugar (mix one cup of sugar and one t. vanilla extract well, spread out on a plate and allow it to dry for a few hours-this stuff is awesome.  Try it on oatmeal..nom nom nom)
  • 2 c. Splenda or sugar
  • 1 c. dry milk
  • 1 c. instant unsweetened tea
  • 1 c. non dairy creamer
  • 1 t. ground nutmeg
  • 1 t. allspice
  • 2 t. ground ginger
  • 2 t. cinnamon
  • 1/2 t. ground cloves
  • 1/2 t. cardamom (I really suggest using the cardamom, it’s the spice that gives Chai Tea is extra pop and is worth the expense.  A little goes a long way)

Mix all ingredients well, store in a sealed container in a cool dry area.  Makes about 1 1/2 to 1 2/3 big mason jars of Chai Tea Latte Mix.

I like to warm a cup of milk and add about 3 heaping teaspoons to a cup. If you are making some for a gift, a little tag tied to the ribbon around the jar neck with these instructions is helpful and looks cute.

Here is to being thrifty, I raise my mug of Chai to you and thank you so much for reading.
Hugs & Blessings,
