Black: Chic and Modern, Distressed and Country, always in style.

I love black. I love color as well, but always tend to use a fair amount of black when decorating and picking out clothes.  The whole “thinning” thing is on the top of my list of course, but I love the way it makes me feel when I wear it.  And I love using it in varying amounts when decorating my home.  It’s classic, chic, can be modern or country, sleek or distressed, and always in style.

Black can be defined as the visual impression experienced when no visible light reaches the eye.  Have you ever heard a designer mention the importance of including some black in every room? Or the suggestion that black is very important in interior design? The reason this design “rule” exists is the amazing power that black has to ground a space and define it.  Let’s check out these amazing photos and how black can be used in large and small amounts to balance a beautiful space.

What an amazing difference just painting (or wallpapering, decoupaging…) the inside of a bookcase can have! I love how the black background makes the books and accessories pop beautifully.

I wish I had a more clear picture of this kitchen, I remember seeing it a few years ago in Domino Magazine (was Domino not the coolest thing ever?!) and I just loved the unexpected black paint.  So pretty!

This space is modern, classic and feminine at the same time, and the accents of black are just what the space needs to really make me swoon.

I not only adore the round mirror above the fireplace, but the use of a sleek black mirror and table against whitewashed traditional woodwork and furniture.

Isn’t this wonderful? I can see myself sitting down to write a letter and enjoy a cup of coffee, while we are at it, let’s “Pin” for a while too.  This space has a much more country feel, but the backdrop is a sleek, black wall.  Lovely.

Oh how fun this space is, the light is pouring in, and how inspired I feel to create just looking at this wonderful office space.

How do incorporate black into your design style? Is it in one large piece of furniture, small accents, or have you taken the daring step to paint a wall black? I would love to hear your favorite ways to incorporate this lovely “color” in your home.
Wishing you many blessings, and design that soothes your soul
xoxo, Tanya

Great inspirational pics Tanya!! I love the color black in home decor…. I've incorporated it into my home both with furniture (black leather tuxedo tufted sectional) and with decor accents (black drapes in my teen's bedroom, black picture frames, black antique clock, ect)….I would love to have a black wall or the wallpaper in the first photo…so classy! Thanks for sharing this post
