Burlap And Book Page Pumpkins

The boys and I recently braved the rain and went on our annual pumpkin search and hay ride.  We drank a lot of wonderful homemade apple cider, kept warm under a lean-to with an outdoor fire, and had a whole bunch of fun while finding some really beautiful pumpkins.  Our loot included corn stalks, gourds, and apple cider for us to enjoy anytime the mood strikes.

I was able to get them to stand still for a few moments to snap a photo during our adventure.  We love fall, and the traditions that we have as a family just get more and more fun every year.  Now that we have a few pumpkins on the porch and our corn stalks in place, it was time to get working on the Post-Halloween decor.  I love Thanksgiving, the food, the weather, family, football, the food, it’s so much fun. And what better way to welcome Thanksgiving than a new table centerpiece!

Burlap is such a beautiful and versatile fabric, and with a few more of the dollar store Styrofoam pumpkins that I bought I had an idea of what I wanted to make.  I began with about a yard of burlap, maybe a little less, and cut it into strips about two inches wide.  For my tall pumpkin I removed one of the stems from the pumpkins and stacked them, using hot glue to secure.
I noticed how much more expensive the larger faux pumpkins are at craft supply stores and thought I may as well try my hand at making my own.

I glued the strips of burlap to the bottom of each pumpkin and pulled each strip to the top of the pumpkin, attaching the strip to the stem with hot glue.  Once both my tall and small pumpkins were covered, I used a few book pages to make paper leaves, trimmed a few acorns from a stem I found at JoAnn’s and gathered a few silk fall leaves to decorate my little pumpkins.

I wound jute string around the top of each pumpkin to form the stem, then using hot glue attached my leaves and acorns around the top of each burlap pumpkin.  Once they were done I trimmed the top of the stem a bit, and they were ready to grace my dining room table.

What are you working on right now for fall? Have you begun to think about fall entertaining or what you might make if you cook for Thanksgiving? If you are in need of any inspiration head on over to Pinterest to save tons of ideas for a lovely season full of fun dinners, afternoons crafting with friends, and more recipes than you know what to do with.

Happy creating, hugs & blessings to you 🙂

xoxo, Tanya
