Burlap Pillows for Fall

Burlap is amazing. Like completely flexible, and pretty, and rustic, and life-altering all in one.

I love to decorate and create with burlap all year, but my favorite, absolute favorite time of
year is Fall.  And burlap just is so Fall-ish, Autumn-ey, cozy, and perfect for these fun
little pillows I am tucking here and there around my house.

Yep.
Another Y’all pillow.
You didn’t think I could let my Summer Y’all pillow be it right?
Nope, we got a seasonal Y’all thing going,
And I know, it’s still August.
But I have to do a little planning right?
And there’s nothing wrong with letting the pretty garlands, wreaths,
and fall decor spill out into the house, and onto the porch a little at
a time.
Over the next couple weeks.
Until the whole place looks like a person addicted to Fall decor lives there.

These were super duper easy.
Crow Pillow:
Here’s what I did.  I made two basic burlap pillow covers and recovered two pillows I already had.
Next I found the template for a crow/raven on google images and printed it out.  There are a ka-gillion
of them it won’t take you long to find one you like.  I cut it out and used a chisel tip Sharpie to trace
around the edges of the template.  I realized how well I liked the look of the ink I used the Sharpie to
fill in the crow and loved the way it turned out (instead of using paint.)
After that I made a few burlap roses and leaves to go in the opposite corner and attached them with hot glue.  Burlap roses are so easy.  Simply cut a piece of burlap about and inch wide and about 18-24 inches long.  Knot one end and begin to roll the burlap and tack it into place around the knot to create a round flower.  And glue the end in place once you are done.  Easy!
Happy Fall Y’all Pillow:
I used the square pillow covered in burlap and traced the letters out with a lower case alphabet stencil
using my chisel tip Sharpie.  I tried filling one of the letters in (instead of using paint again) and loved the
way the marker soaked part way thru but not all the way thru the burlap.  So pretty.
Next I used a leaf stencil and some Folk Art by Plaid craft paint in a dark orange to pounce on the color
to create the leaf pattern.  And that’s it!
There they are, two new Fall projects that took very little time and expense to make.
So where do you stand on the Summer/Fall decorating time line?
I would love to hear your traditions and what you love about Fall too!!

OMG…I'm addicted to Burlap! I love the smell, texture…everything! The pillows are amazing and have given me an idea from the next round of burlap purses I've been making. I would love your thoughts on my purses which I have posted on my blog.

Great pillows, Tanya! I love both of them. I did a couple burlap pillows last year, one with a fleur de lis, and one with a tree stencil. Both were 'no-sew', which I like. Thanks for sharing how you did the burlap roses. I'd like to learn how to make them.
