Chevron Pillow Upcycle

Sitting pretty on my favorite green shabby table
I had a few chair pads that I bought while thrifting last year, and meant to recover them oh, about 37 times. Some time passed and I found just enough lovely yellow and white chevron fabric at the fabric store to do something with.  I ended up folding the old chair pads in half to make an awesome pillow form for the three new pillows.  I wanted to make them rectangular to accent the pattern, and this was perfect!
Below you see the not-so-hot chair pads that I picked up for a buck a piece.  I am not one to run out and buy new pillow forms as they can be pricey for a large project, even on sale.  And since I like to show you some fun ideas that I hope you like as much as I do, my main rule, is they always have to be on the cheap.  So, in the true spirit of cheapness, behold the old chair pad and it’s new fabric…
I folded those little babies in half and used them just like I would a regular pillow form after I stitched the the chevron fabric together….

like this:

I stitched two pieces, right sides together, turned them inside-out and pressed them well.  I folded about a half-inch in on one side (below) and inserted the “pillow form”…

This gives you another angle so you can see they fit in there nice and snug.  I got an awesome upper-body workout to boot while whip-stitching the open side by hand.  I was the one that wanted them firm not mushy.  I do not have anything against mushy pillows, I own many.  However, after careful consideration, as well as measurement of said fabric, firm was the final decision which I think makes the pattern stand out, don’t you?
After a few minutes at the dining room table convincing my one year old, two year and five year old that “mommy is almost done” we ate a delicious lunch of PB & J’s while admiring the latest additions to our living room.  I hope this gives you some ideas for sprucing up your casa, while saving money at the same time 🙂
Blessings, Tanya

I love the bright fabric! It will really add a pop of color. I redid a trash can in the zig zag pattern and can now say that I am officially smitten by chevron. Great looking pillows! (Newest follower)

Good to have found your blog. I love the idea of using chair pads to stuff your new pillows..I always doubted my self on doing that.. Chevron and yellow are my two recent obsessions. Great job!
