how to make flannel pumpkins

Flannel, apple cider, pumpkin pie.

We still have some Fall to celebrate before it’s time to deck the halls right?

Well, just about every year I try to find a new way to decorate those lovely faux pumpkins from
the dollar store.  This time I wanted to try upcycling a cozy red flannel shirt that my Hubs just
wore for our Halloween party.  He wasn’t going to wear it again, and while it was a thrifty Goodwill
score, I wanted to find a way to use it again.

flannel crafts

So, this is what I came up with.

Supplies:

  • One flannel shirt or flannel fabric
  • Faux pumpkins in different sizes
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • One piece of green, and one gold felt

Directions:

Use a dinner knife or craft knife to cut out the stem of each pumpkin.
Cut a square or circle around your pumpkin large enough to pull it up and tuck the fabric into the center
where the stem was.  Use hot glue to tack it into place.

Cut a few leaves out for each pumpkin from the green felt, glue around the top of the pumpkins, leaving room
for the stem.  From the gold felt, cut three long triangles, roll them starting at the large edge first, and use hot
glue to tack the end into place.  Add hot glue to one end and attach it to the center of the pumpkin.

And that ‘s it!

flannel crafts for winter

Easy and so pretty, I love how warm and cozy the flannel is, and the red almost makes them feel a little bit
like winter pumpkins, if there is such a thing.

Maybe there should be…

Either way, there’s lots more pumpkin recipes, and turkey leftovers in the weeks to come.
And these little flannel pumpkins will be at the center of our dining room table with a few mason jars
glowing with candles inside.  Simple, reusable, and pretty.

So what do you think, do you already have a flannel something laying around that you could turn into
a lovely new fall centerpiece?

I bet you do, if not, I’ll see you at Goodwill, I know we can find something 🙂
