DIY Chevron Doormat

We all love a great deal, but you just cannot beat some of the great stuff you find at the Dollar Store.  I came across this doormat yesterday at my local Dollar Tree and I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.  Paint it of course…and what better way to fancy up my bargain that some chevron stripes?

The popularity and versatility of the chevron pattern is such a hot trend, and does not seem to be letting up.  Chevron at my house is like chalkboards, you need some in every room.  Not to mention how fabulous orange and blue look together (this combo is my huge style crush right now)

I used blue painter’s tape by 3M (2″ wide.) I created a zig-zag pattern across the top of the mat, then just continued the pattern all the way down to the bottom.

I chose one of my favorite craft paints by Americana, Burnt Orange, and using my sponge paint pouncer applied the paint over all exposed areas.

After I applied the first coat, I followed up with another coat, as some of the paint went into the rug and was not as bright as it dried.

Two coats worked perfectly.  I used one of my favorite stencils in the corner with a little turquoise paint.  What kinds of goodies have you found on the cheap that you turned into something beautiful? I would love to hear!

Thank you for crafting with me, wishing you a blessed and joyful week 🙂

hugs, Tanya
