DIY Fall Burlap Banner

I was experimenting recently with a few stencils and fabric, trying to decide what would look
good with my Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving decorating.  Burlap of course, a warm Fall
color like a deep pumpkin orange was perfect.  But I wanted to find just the right stencil to
tie the highlights of the season together, and take me all the way through November.  I came
across my favorite damask stencil and knew it would compliment my favorite Fall decorations.
Here is what I used:
1/2 yard of burlap
Triangular banner template (make your own or find a ton of them online too)
Damask stencil
Orange acrylic paint
Paint pouncer
Small dish or paper plate for paint
Paper towels
Hot glue
Jute string (about  6 feet depending on how many pennant’s you make)

Directions:
Press your burlap well so it is smooth, and cut out your triangular pennant’s.  Line the cut burlap along
a paper towel and using your paint pouncer with a bit of paint loaded onto it, stencil the centered
damask design onto each pennant.  Once they are dry, run a thin line of hot glue across the top on the
back of each pennant and attach the jute string, leaving an inch or two of space between each piece
of burlap.  Apply another thin line of hot glue under the string and fold the top of the pennant back to
create a pocket, trim any excess burlap at the corners to create a clean line, repeat until you are out of  burlap and ready to get to decorating your next for Fall!
It’s that easy to make a pretty, burlap banner to show off a mirror, doorway, piece of art, or a super
junky window that’s about to fall apart.

Did I mention that the window had glass panes a few minutes before I created this easy vignette?
After the first pane cracked in half when I tried to clean it the other two came out as well.  It’s
from an old houseboat in Oregon so I cannot expect it to not have a little bit of weather damage.
I love the peeling paint (white on top of mint green!) and wish there was a bit more left.
I wanted it right when I saw it online and for $8 I figured I couldn’t go wrong.

What are you working on right now? I would love to hear about your Fall traditions and ideas, just
scroll down and tell us what you are up to!!
