I don’t know about you, but the holiday season is sneaking up on me this year. There are a few people in my life (who shall go nameless to protect the surprise factor upon receipt of their gift!) that I think would enjoy a Menu Board for their kitchen. It’s a nice way to keep track of what the family is eating that week, and what they can look forward to. And if there are any picky eaters reading the Menu Board each week, they have plenty of time to worry about what is coming their way.
And true to our thrifty standards, this was a very affordable project. I spent $5 on the frame and matting. I already had the scrapbook paper and letters on hand, but if you needed to purchase them it would not take very much of either. This particular frame I found at a local thrift store, but the same could be found at most discount and craft stores as well.
The little Dachshund in the beret and sweater is very cute. And it was hard for me to remove him from his cozy little home, but crafting requires sacrifice sometimes so we said our goodbyes. I measured my scrapbooking paper, and attached it to the back of the matting. Turning it over, I added the days of the week along the left hand side of the mat, and the word “menu” at the bottom along with some strips of scrapbook paper and decals that came with them. I love the font and color of these alphabet stickers…
I cleaned and dried the glass well inside and out, placed my new menu inside the frame, and tested it out with my dry erase markers and it worked great.
These would also make a really fun housewarming gift, bridal shower gift, or great DIY budget friendly gift for a cook in your life. I have already given this one away, so I will need to get to crafting again to make one for my kitchen. And if my family is really lucky it wont say “take out” or “cold cereal of your choice” after each day of the week 🙂
I hope this finds you inspired to create, and hopefully you have been shopping since January 1st 2012. You are probably not a ginormo procrastinator like me, if you are stay tuned, we will be making lots of affordable gifts in the weeks to come. Stock up on hot glue and chocolate!
Hugs & Blessings
