How Fabric And Paint Transform Goodwill Furniture

Finding a solid table to refinish, or a great chair to paint can be challenging enough.  But to find a super retro piece, or in this case two pieces was a momentous occasion for me.  If you have not taken the super easy Stylescope quiz at Home Goods check it out and find out what your home design personality is.  I am Bohemian Eclectic.  Sounds fancy, I like it!

Being a child of the 70’s I love Heart, bell bottoms, frosty lip gloss, and my spoon ring.  When I came across these brass stools they had some fantastic crushed blue velvet fabric on the seats.  They reminded me of Mrs. Roper and The Love Boat at the same time.  I have been looking for two chairs for either side of our TV stand, the connected circles were soft yet edgy and perfect to sit against a square wall, with a big square TV, above, you got it, a square stand.

I wanted to use either and Ikat or Moroccan fabric, but both were kind of spendy.  However, I found this roll for $6 a yard at Hancock Fabrics a few weeks ago.  There were eight yards left on the roll, and they are all mine.

I used Krylon Hammered Finish spray paint in Nickel, and two good coats covered very well.  A little hot glue later,  and my freshly ironed fabric was ready to go on.  I trimmed it around the edges of each seat, giving myself about 1 1/2 inches around the edge extra.  Pulling the fabric before gluing the edges down under the seat so it was smooth, they were almost done.

Once each seat was covered and the spray paint was dry, I was ready to attach the seats again, and kissed the brass and crushed velvet goodbye!

Here’s to seeing things not as they are right now, but what they could be…

Happy creating & thank you for reading,

xoxo, Tanya
