Industrial Wall Vase

A quick stop in at the thrift store this weekend netted a few goodies I fell in love with.
The big find was two of these huge Mason Jars.  I paid $5 for the pair, and I felt like hiding
them in my cart just in case another mason-jar-addicted-diy’er may be shopping at the same 
time and see them.  Here is what I used to make this Industrial Wall Vase…

With the remainder of the shopping trip being fairly uneventful, and my giant Mason Jars in tow
I headed for The Home Depot for the rest of my supplies.
I love to mix vintage with modern so a vintage Mason Jar full of gorgeous roses framed 
by an industrial wood and metal wall piece was exactly what I wanted to create.
Here is what I used:
Pine lumber from The Home Depot (3 1/2″ wide pieces) I purchased two and had them cut
Minwax Wood Finish stain in Dark Walnut
Foam brush
4 flat L-brackets for the corners
6 straight brackets for the back
Single nickel finish coat hook
Picture hanging wire and hooks
Lightweight chain
One hose clamp (large enough to fit securely under the lip of the jar)
Needle nosed pliers
Power drill
Paper towels
Directions:
I had my lumber cut in 4 two foot long pieces at the store, which is a time saver.
I lined up the four pieces of wood and used the straight brackets to connect
the wood together on the back.  I attached the picture hanging wire and hooks next.
After that I used about 14″ of chain and connected it to the hose clamp by looping 
each end of chain around and connecting it so it created a hanger on each side.
Next I attached the hose clamp to the Mason Jar by screwing it firmly into place (the 
clamp has a nut that you turn to tighten) which created a strong hanger for the jar.
I used one good coat of stain on the wood, and wiped off the excess letting it dry for 
a few hours afterward.  Last I attached the coat hook to the front of the boards, and 
secured each of the L-shaped brackets to the corners and hung the vase in place.
This project took less than an afternoon, and most of that was drying time for the wood 
stain.  I clipped a few of my favorite roses from our backyard, and filled my new wall 
vase with some water.  I hung it up in the garden to get good outdoor pictures of it, but I 
plan on using it inside in my entryway.  
Each time we leave, arrive home, or welcome guests, we can have a bundle of fresh, pretty 
flowers hanging anywhere we place the wall vase.
I have one more of these large Mason Jars, and I think I will probably use it in my laundry 
room redo (in process more later this week.) What a great container for clothes pins, soap,
or maybe another bundle of flowers.  Could one ever have enough flowers in life?
