Do you ever think about how very huge our world is, yet so small at the same time?
We are all part of something so much greater than ourselves, interlinked, equally loved and valued
by our Creator. On a planet so strong yet so delicately balanced to sustain life.
It’s awesome, and wonderful to think about.
Some of us are very far away from loved ones, and it sure is hard to think about not being with
them when we think of carving turkeys or watching our favorite Holiday movies each year.
Looking at this globe each day, knowing we all stare up at the same moon and stars made me feel
that much closer to loved ones miles away.
I picked up this globe for just under $10 at Goodwill recently, and while that’s more than I usually try
to spend on an upcycle, I had this exact project in mind.
And I didn’t want to paint my grandfather’s globe either, so in the cart she went.
I love too that the land masses are raised on it too, and little pieces of paper used to create it, overlap
and are separating slightly here and there. All the more vintage looking!
Here is what I used to make my {Holiday Style!} Chalkboard Globe:
Supplies:
- Globe of any size (I used the full size type you find in a classroom, etc…)
- Chalkboard spray-paint
- White chalk
- Print out my free printable if you are dreaming of a White Christmas too (below)
- Twine and decorations to make some loose garlands for your globe
- Glue dots for scrap-booking / paper crafting
Here are the removable Glue Dots that I love:
The printable I made for this project
just click to open and print, it will print well on a regular sized piece of card stock paper:
Directions:
It was windy, rainy and getting dark when I began this project so I spray painted the globe inside
of a large cardboard box outside. I used two good coats of paint and allowed it to cure overnight.
The next day I rubbed the side of a piece of white chalk all over the surface of the globe and smoothed it
out with a paper towel. Next I printed my banner on white card stock, and trimmed around the edges,
leaving a little white so it would really pop against the black chalkboard.
I used my glue dots to attach a few berries and decorations from some Michael’s Christmas picks and
jute twine to make two garland. I attached each banner with a glue dot on the back, at each end.
Added the garlands, allowing each to meet in the back (no one will see that part!)
and stood back to enjoy my new globe.
I am really loving how this turned out, and the best part is that the glue dots will come off easily so I can
use this for many themes or anywhere in our home I would like all during the year!

I love this globe! I’ve eyed a similar one at The Pottery Barn with a $40 price tag, so I’ve been contemplating making my own. I love yours much better than their version, though! The garland makes it so cute!
