How to make a God’s Eye wall hanging

First off I must say that I do not crochet or knit.  My daughter does and she is amazing.

The skill is not in my wheelhouse, but I sure do like to buy yarn.

Aisle after aisle of different textures and every color you could dream of.

I have the hardest time with yarn, it’s almost as bad as paint!

So many options it’s really hard to decide.

I wanted to make a bright, fun wall hanging for our house, and woven pieces add so much texture and warmth wherever you hang them.

I grabbed my yarn, dowel cut in half and scissors to see what I could come up with.

No sooner than I tied my first knot my boys said “CAN THAT GO IN OUR ROOM?”

So, Abbie is next on the list for me to make one for her room now too.

These are so super easy, and when I say anyone can do it, I literally mean anyone as my skill with yarn consists of buying it, storing it and hopefully finding a woven project like this to make.

I chose some bright colors that I liked together, but I think black and white, grey and white or any combination would look cool together.  You really can’t go wrong.

I used a square wooden dowel from JoAnn’s, cut in half.  Scissors and yarn that I liked.

See we don’t even need the bullets with each supply listed next to it. It’s that easy.

When I started I was worried I was going to have a el-floppo as it looked really terrible.

Like crafting after a few glasses of wine would look terrible.

I secured my first knot…

And as  I moved around the piece, first going over then under all around with my first color I could see it coming together.

Which is a good thing as I had three kids 11, 8, and 6 watching me.  They are quite vocal about their opinions at this age.

When it was time to change colors I tied the ends together to transition to a new color, and kept working around the piece over and under until I was happy with the amount of each color.

Don’t the hot pink and turquoise look pretty next to each other?

You can almost hear them shout: HEY, I AM PART OF A COOL NEW GOD’S EYE WALL HANGING, LOOK HOW PRETTY WE LOOK NEXT TO EACH OTHER.

Oh good, so you hear them say it too right?

I was concerned the combination of  yarn and wine were getting to me.

And I was able to get a couple photos taken before two boys absconded with my new God’s Eye.

I mean, their new God’s Eye #diymomprobs right?

So there you have it.  A craft many of us did as kids, made a bit more grown up.

Off to make the next one, gotta keep the tribe happy 🙂

Thank you so much for reading today friend! Have you ever made one of these or another woven type of piece for your home?

Until next time!

Stay crafty-

xo, Tanya
