No Sew Burlap Tree Skirt

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
 
I like to decorate my front porch for Christmas (ok every season-but especially Christmas) almost as much as the inside of my home.  I have had these two mini trees for years, and have always loved using them on the porch, or fireplace hearth.  This year they are back on the porch and finally getting a proper tree skirt.  They have been naked all this time and never complained. 
 
I tried a red and white gingham, then a brown and white polka dot, but the burlap won.  Burlap wins alot because it is forgiving, and shabby, and gorgeous, and I love it.  I think there are a lot of us burlap lovers out there.  Besides chevron and mason jars it has to be the most Pinned thing in the world.  And rightly so!

 
First I measured under my tree (I am making these for small trees, but the same applies to a full size tree, just more burlap) and decided that I would like a skirt about 14 inches wide.  Whatever size tree you are making a skirt for, you just want to make sure your finished skirt is a few inches larger in diameter than the bottom of your tree.

 
I cut two pieces of burlap from a piece about 2/3 of a yard long.  Measuring a 14″ x 14″ square, and folding into a quarter, made it much easier to cut into a circle.  Next I made a slit in the burlap circle from the edge into the center.

 
I cut my remaining fabric and scraps into strips and frayed them a bit at the edges.

 
Using my hot glue gun I pinched and glued the burlap pieces around every raw edge until the tree skirts looked rustic and pretty.  And I was out of burlap, so they were done!

 
I included a few pictures of the porch and a few things I have done for Christmas.  I put a few pretty sparkly sugared fruits and a bit of real evergreen garland on my chippy avocado green table. 

 
My six year old, who assisted with so much of our outdoor decorating suggested we use red ribbon on the pillows out front to make them look like presents.  I tucked a little sparkly sprig in behind each ribbon.  It’s beginning to look a lot like…

 
Begonia’s…not what you were expecting? Me neither, we don’t usually have them still going in early December here in the Northwest but this little gal is a fighter.  The big blossom finally gave up and came off today.  I included some of our signature moss that grows amazingly well here too.  This is my North garden so there is even more moss.  I have to keep moving quickly or the moss will begin growing on me too, ah you gotta love a rainy climate. 

 
I love fresh evergreen garlands around my doors and above my windows at Christmas.  They are such a treat and they smell amazing.  I have a ruffly burlap wreath up with a glittery jingle bell reindeer inside of it.  My Let It Snow sign is more of a desperate plea for snow than a greeting.  I love snow and we sometimes see a couple days of it each year.  I miss those years growing up in central Washington, when it seemed like winter lasted forever.  I had purple moon boots that I lived in, and only went inside to eat and sleep during the winter .  I wouldn’t trade that for anything.  I sure do hope we get snow this year.  Those boots are around here somewhere…

    The tree skirt is great, and love the idea of no sew! I would love some fresh garlands around the house, nothing beats the smell of those. Fingers crossed for some snow soon, just doesn't seem right without some!
