Polka Dot Halloween Pillow and A Spooky Chalkboard

Let me first tell you how crazy-excited I was to review Folk Art Multi Surface Paint and
Handmade Charlotte Stencils the possibilities are endless!
This is a sponsored post on behalf of Blueprint Social, but as always, all opinions are 100% mine.

I used these exciting new products to create some fun projects I want to share with you
like this kinda-creepy little chalkboard for Halloween…

FolkArt® already has an amazing selection of glazes, paints and tools

but their FolkArt® Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paints are exactly what they sound like.
Yep, you can use them on quite a few different surfaces with fabulous
results.  Wood, glass, fabric, rigid plastic, styrofoam, metal…the list goes on.
I love that they are both dishwasher safe and machine washable too, and
can be found at your local Michaels store!
And, not only did FolkArt®  thrill me with the thought of one
paint for many surfaces, you can also turn anything into a chalkboard with
another great product: FolkArt® Chalkboard Multi-Surface Clear Coating.
Yep, mind-warping right?  Not chalkboard paint.
But a clear coat that turns anything into a chalkboard.
Amaze-balls.
With some of the on trend FolkArt ® Handmade Charlotte™ Stencils (available at
Michaels too) , some paint
pouncers and a little Halloween excitement, here is what I made.
My first project was this pretty-yet-a-little-spooky-since-it-has-a-crow-watching-you
framed chalkboard.  This was super easy and other than the curing time, took about 30
minutes to make.  Here is what I used:
-One picture frame with glass
-Creepy Dollar Tree crow (I love these things!)
-Spanish Moss
-Hot Glue
-One piece of matte black or sparkly card stock
-Embellishment if desired
-White Chalk
-Jute Twine
-FolkArt ® Chalkboard Multi-Surface Clear Coating
I began by cleaning my glass as directed and applied a good coat of  FolkArt ® Chalkboard
Multi-Surface Clear Coating to the glass. After one hour I applied another coat, then allowed
the glass to cure for 24 hours.
The next day I popped the glass back into the frame and placed a piece of black sparkly card
stock behind it, trimmed to fit.  I glued each end of a piece of jute twine on the top two corners of
the frame back, and glued a metal “31” embellishment to the front.  Next I attached the Spanish moss
and crow in the corner with more hot glue, and rubbed the side of my chalk over the surface of the
painted glass to prep it for use.  I wiped off the excess chalk and decided that a simple “boo” was
all Mr. Crow needed since he already looked ominous enough perched atop my shabby chalkboard.
Easy right?
Are your wheels spinning over how many things you could use this on?
Mine have been!

Here is what I also made, this time with FolkArt® Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paints.
I use acrylic paint with no fabric medium on fabric all the time, but I never like the way
it feels afterwards.  But since I use it on projects that won’t ever be washed,
I don’t worry too much about it.  This paint however is different.  Super rich and creamy colors,
and they load very well onto a paint pouncer.
What’s that? Do they bleed under the edges of the cool FolkArt ® Handmade Charlotte™ Stencils?
Nope.
Nada.
Here is how I made this cute & spooky little pillow:
-Enough unbleached muslin to cover a pillow form in your desired size, I used about 1/3 yard
-Pillow form or pillow to upcycle

– Folk Art Multi Surface Paint and Handmade Charlotte Stencils
-Paint pouncer

-Thin paintbrush
-Alphabet stencil or letters printed out found online and cut out to spell your word
-Gray Sharpie and hot glue
-Fabric scraps for rosettes
I used the polka dot stencil to create this fun design, they were really use to use, and very
easy to create a pattern without overlapping or spaces.  Next I used a light gray Sharpie
to outline each letter, and using a thin paintbrush filled each in with gray paint.
After the paint was dry I used the painted muslin to recover my rectangular pillow.
Next I used some fat quarters and fabric scraps in coordinating colors to make six
rosettes and glued them along one side of the pillow.
And now I have some new spooky-but-not-scary Halloween decor kids of all ages can enjoy!

By using black card stock does this mean you can change out colors? I'm new to chalkboard paint and intrigued with this project.
