Recycled Wood Coat Rack {junk makeover}

You may be a junker if…
You know when your local thrift stores
have their half off days.
You know where the very best
yard sales are in your area.
Your friends who are not into junking
consider you a pro and call you for your opinion
before buying a treasure.

Some of us may have begun by necessity in college,
some of us were reared and trained by junkers,
and some drawn to the lovely details and hope
we see in a find that others may not.
I purchased a small stack of
already painted boards at a local tag sale last summer.
I believe the previous owner had used them for shelves.
As with most finds, they had to sit for a while before
inspiration struck.

I recently purchased some new French script stencils
and I have so many ideas of how I can use them.
The numbers are large in size, 5″ high, which was perfect
to give this coat rack a bold, subway-art-ish
industrial feel.

I began by alternating ivory and tan acrylic paint
colors, and stenciled on the numbers.

After the paint was completely dry, I used a coarse
sandpaper and really heavily distressed the edges
and areas of the wood.

I picked up a few inexpensive drawer pulls
in an antique gold finish, and attached
each just like you would if you were
changing out the hardware on a dresser.
Super easy, and the entire project
was less than $10 since I will be able
to use the paint, and stencils many more times.
It took a few tries, but I finally was able to
race outside and catch a tiny bit of good light
today to take a picture.  We call it a “sun-break”
in the Pacific Northwest.  I think it is a reminder
from God that we will make it to Spring,
and the sun is truly still there,
even though soggy residents
may have wondered.
Don’t get me wrong, I love it here
and I cannot imagine living anywhere else.
Where else would I be able to get to the ocean,
a volcano (actually a few), and great snow
all within a short drive?
Thank you so much for reading, and
as always,
xo, Tanya

Your rack turned out so cute! I love the industrial flair to it, and those curvy numbers…yeah! I'd love it if you linked this to my new linky party, "What We've Accomplished Wednesdays." It is live right now.

    Have a great week!
