Rustic-Glam DIY Christmas

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Blueprint Social for Martha Stewart Crafts
by Plaid. All opinions are 100% mine.
Do you ever like to mix something simple with something gorgeous?
Kind of like wearing a beautiful piece of jewelry with your favorite jeans.
Pearls and cowboy boots.
Burlap and a little bling.
Martha Stewart Crafts gave me just the inspiration
to mix rustic with sparkle, here is what I came up with.
I used two Dollar Tree glass vases attached with E-6000 to two glass candle holders,
also from Dollar Tree to create the Snowflake Hurricane Lights.  Using the matte
decoupage finish first as a base to which I smoothed the cut-outs over, then as a
sealer once they were dry.  I love that the matte finish gave the glass a lovely frosted
finish once it was dry.
Don’t you love it when a project really goes like you were hoping?
Next I used the Martha Stewart Crafts gilding sheets and adhesive to apply a super glimmery
silver finish to two votives.  I have not used this before and it was really easy (my fave.)
Below is what the glass vases with candle holders attached looked like before I
applied the matte finish (which by the way is dishwasher safe!)

I used a dark graphite spray paint to first paint the stand below that is actually
an old cake pan attached to a tall inverted flower pot.  After it was dry, I used
a bit of sandpaper to remove some of the paint.  I applied a coat of the gilding
adhesive first, then once is was dry to a tacky stage, applied the silver leaf
sheets by pressing and smoothing them over the surface all around the stand.
It as so easy and fun! Martha Stewart Crafts line can be found at Michaels
or in Plaid’s online store too.
I am just loving silver and white mixed with natural materials like burlap and wood right now.

Stunning Tanya! I love the way the matte decoupage went on glass- I didn't realize it would do that. I love the rustic glam mix – so pretty!! That cake pan/pot tray is a stroke of brilliance as well!!
