This is the first countdown calendar I have made, and now I am officially hooked.
We are working on a thrifty do it yourself wood fireplace mantel for our gas fireplace,
and I hope to have it done soon.
We have done some restructuring to our homeschool time, and trying really hard to
stick to my meal plan. Being more organized seems to free up more time for fun.
Like making things together and waiting for February 1st to arrive so we can open
the first envelope to see what is inside.
I love projects like this that bring old and new together, and using elements with a
little bit of history (more about that.)
Elements used to make a Rustic Valentine Countdown Calendar
Chippy window frame or empty picture frame
Jute twine
Small natural paper envelopes
Valentine scrap book paper
Glue Stick
Metal-ringed tags
Sticker numbers
Hole punch, scissors
Small index cards and pen
Mini clothespins
Directions:
Cut out and attach 14 hearts from your scrap book paper and attach to the front of each
envelope. Apply the numbers 1-14 to the tags and attach the tags to each heart. Use your
hole punch to create two holes along the top or end of the envelope and fill out an index
card for each day with something sweet inside. It could be an activity to do with your
family, or someone you want to remind how much they mean to you. There are so many
ways we can let our loved ones know that they are a blessing to us.
Next, tie a bow with a piece of jute twine thru each envelope, and clip to each string
across the frame. And hang it in a place that you can see it and enjoy opening each
day’s envelope.
I have used this chippy, faded window frame a few times in the background of different
projects but I think I like it because I love the story.
I bought it from a lady in an online local selling group for fans of rustic and country stuff.
When we met and I bought the last one she had, she shared with me that her Mom lives
in a boat house and loves the water. She is renovating the boat house with her Mom and
these old windows needed to go. But being a lover of memories and wood, she shared
them with us.
That sounds like an amazing act of love and service to give someone you love.
I wonder if they will have the boat house done in time for Valentine’s Day.
