Wedding Invitations On A Budget

When planning a wedding on a budget, one of the easiest areas to overspend
is on wedding invitations.  It seems like it begins there are snowballs out of
control until before you know it, budget is the last word anyone has uttered
in recent months.
And it’s so easy to do, because it is wonderful, and fun.
And pretty.
You want your bride to be happy, and excited.
And love everything about her special day.
And not regret the debt incurred after the honeymoon.

My daughter is getting married in just over 4 weeks from now in our backyard.
To say there is a lot of work to do between now and then is putting it mildly.
But we can pull it off.

And I am going to share with you every thrifty thing we are making and doing

to make her special day lovely, and special.

The first area we knew we could save quite a bit was making our own wedding
invitations.  I am not a paper-crafter really, but I love working with paper, and have
just enough tools to be dangerous.

Off to JoAnn’s we headed for some inspiration.
Mandy found a bundle of the kraft paper card stock for under $5, and she loved
the color.  It is in keeping with our rustic, shabby theme.
Her two favorite colors are this light, soft pink and aqua blue.
We wanted to incorporate them in a subtle way, and keep the rustic/feminine
balance.
We found some of this aqua and white baker’s twine, some soft pink card stock
and used a heart shaped paper punch we found at another store to go on the
center of each invitation.

We just used Word to create a simple invitation for the inside, and sent the print job
to Office Depot, also under $5.  Not too bad so far!

We used a double sided adhesive roller (kind of like white-out tape) to attach the
printed portion of the invitation to the inside after we trimmed both down to fit in
our envelopes.

With a dot of adhesive, each paper heart went on the front of the tri-fold invitation
and we wrapped & tied the baker’s twine around each invitation once we were done.

She was thrilled with colors and balance of rustic/country and soft/girly.
Just what we were going for.
Check one thing off the list!

Next I am working on the bunting that will be hanging along our fence and
many sweet accents to make our backyard a rustic, warm barn-like
atmosphere to welcome Mandy and her beau into wedded bliss.

Oh they are beautiful. I love them ๐Ÿ™‚ I prefer these types of invitations to the big expensive ones with 12 pieces of extra paper in there. It's so much better to me when things are made ๐Ÿ™‚ Congarts to the bride too..

Such beautiful invitations! And, so much more special since they are homemade! I have 3 girls, so we will be finding super thrifty ways to make their wedding days special. I have a little while, they are 13, 11 and 8. But, I know that it will be here before I know it! Life to the full! Melissa @ DaisyMaeBelle

Your invitations came out cute!! Good for you – no need to spend tons of money. My daughter got married two years ago – we saved a ton doing things ourselves – but it still looked great! Have fun personalizing your daughter's wedding. Best of Luck to the Bride to be.

I LOVE this idea! Don't you wish there was Pinterest or blogs when we were getting married? And you are old enough to have a daughter getting married? I had to re-read that a few times!
