Hello friends!!
After days of hard rain we woke up to a beautiful sunny morning, chirping birds and all.
There may be more rain in the forecast (every day for the next 7 days) but right now I
see blue skies peeking through and that’s all I need to get in the spring spirit.
I hope to make some new pillows for our front porch this week, and continue to work
on Abbie’s room as well. Right now her room is a hodge-podge of stuff that works
but doesn’t reflect the funny, happy, sassy young lady she has grown into in 3 1/2
short years. Later today I will be working on the paint idea board…so many options!
I did get a little time for crafting this weekend, and decided I would make a group of
pretty painted glass bottles to bring a little spring anywhere they are placed.
These turned out so pretty & fun that I will be using them all the way through
fall I am sure. I was worried that the pastels may look too much like an Easter
craft, but once the paint was dry and I added my paper & ribbons they were
perfect.
Here is what I used to make these painted glass bottle vases:
- Assortment of glass bottles (I used a wine bottle, spaghetti sauce jar, and an old jelly jar)
- Acrylic paints in colors of your choice (I used Apple Barrel by Plaid: Tropic Orange, Pale Daffodil & Key West)
- A variety of ribbons & one bright yellow paper doily for the tall vase
- Tape & hot glue
Directions:
Start with clean, dry bottles and jars, and plan on using about one 2 oz. bottle of paint per vase. The small bottles
only used about 1/2 a bottle of paint.
Squirt a generous amount of paint into the bottom of the jar, and turn/roll the jar around until every area inside
is covered with paint. Any excess can be poured out, be careful to wipe the out edge clean so the paint does not
dry on the outside. Place the bottles in a clean, dry area upright to dry for a day or so.
Once they are dry, get creative with your ribbons, paper, washi tape etc… and decorate to your heart’s content!
I chose a couple narrow strips of ribbons for my medium and small vases, and a bright paper doily wrapped with
a yellow polka dot ribbon for my tall vase. I love yellow and aqua together!
So what do you think? Pretty easy huh? I try to save any bottles I think I may want to use under my kitchen sink
because you just never know when inspiration may strike. And if I decorate them for an event or party, like a
shower or BBQ, I didn’t invest a lot in supplies so I don’t feel bad if I only use some bottle vases a couple of times.
These, however will be center stage for quite a while, I love them. Here they are on my dining room table. And
since they have paint on the inside, I have opted to use paper or silk flowers in them (plus they look great empty!)
as too not soften or scratch the dried paint inside.
